This article reflects on the conditions necessary for the clinic and ethnography approaches to become research methods in the knowledge field of the human being. The proposal is that the kind of facts that interest this research are “acts of meaning"; therefore, their research methodologies must abandon hard models to qualify the statute of data, and must refer to flexible models which allow observations or discourses that are not objectivable. However, without these facts it is difficult to understand what is essential about the problems that are investigated in a qualitative manner. What is heard and what is seen have certain characteristics as "data", and therefore an articulation between both sources of information is proposed, which takes distance from the methodological metonymy of considering what is observed as a self-sufficient totality.Este artículo reflexiona sobre las condiciones necesarias para que la clínica y la etnografía puedan constituirse en métodos de investigación en el campo del saber sobre el ser humano. Se propone que el tipo de hechos que interesan a estas investigaciones son “hechos de significación", de tal suerte que sus dispositivos de investigación deben renunciar a modelos duros para cualificar el estatuto de los datos” y pasar a modelos flexibles, capaces de dar un lugar a observacio nes o discursos no objetivables pero sin los cuales es difícil entender lo medular de los problemas que se investigan cualitativamente. Lo observado y lo escuchado tienen ciertas especificidades en cuanto “datos”, y por ello se propone una articulación entre ambas fuentes de información que se desmarque de la metonimia metodológica que consiste en tomar lo observado como una totalidad autosuficiente.
