The article reviews the existzng literature on adolescent stress, social support and psychological well-being. Available studies on the main effects of stress on adolescent wellbeing, and the buffering properties of social support are discussed. The distinction between major and minor stressful events is emphasized, both for research and intervention purposes. Finally, suggestions far future research and design of preventive programs arediscussed.El artículo revisa la literatura sobre el estrés, apoyo social y bienestar psicosocial en adolescentes. Se discuten los estudios que examinan tanto los efectos principales del estrés sobre el bienestar psicosocial, como también las propiedades moderadoras de los sistemas de apoyo social. Se enfatiza la distinción entre eventos estresantes mayores y menores. Finalmente se entregan sugerencias para futuras investigaciones y para el desarrollo de programas preventivos del estrés en adolescentes.
