This work explores the relationship bel ween the capacity to visualize mental states and the internalization of attachment working models. The hypothesis is (hat attachment relationships maintained by children in their early relationshipg, are a central clement in latcr development of a theory of mina. Related to this issue, it is suggested that different patterns or attachment styles developed by children can facilitate or hinder the emergencc of the capacity to represent the behavior in terms of mental states. The sample was constituted by 60 children, at ages between three and Six years old, divided according to gender and age-groups. The instruments use,d in this investigation were Task of Completing Attachment Histories, to identify altachrnent working models, and the Task of Prediction and Explanation to detect theory of mind The results show a clear relationship between attachment Slyles and level of development of theory of mind, showing a link between the attachment style Secure and higher devclopment of theory of mind- It concludes with a theoretical analysis of possible conditions that would be involved in the relationship between attachmcnt styles and theory of mindEste trabajo explora la tx.:lación entre la capacidad de visualizar estados mentales y la internalización de modelos operantes de apego. Se hipotetiza que las relaciones de apego mantenidas en las relaciones tempranas del niño, son un elemento central en el posterior desarrollo de una teoría de la mente. Directamente ligado a IO anterior se sugiere que diferentes patrones o estilos de apego desamllados por el niño pueden facilitar o dificultar el surgimiento de la capacidad de represenlar la conducta en términos de estados mentales. La muestra estuvo constituida por 60 niños, con edades entre tres y seis años, divididos de acuerdo a su género y grupos de edad. Los instrumentos utilizados en esta investigación fueron la Tarea de Completación de Historias dc Apego, para identificar modelos operantes de apego, y las Tareas de Predicción y Explicæ ción para detectar teoría de la mente cn los sujetos evaluados. Los resultados obtenidos arrojaron una clara relación entre la internalización dc los estilos de apego y el nivel de desarrollo de teoría de lamente, encontrándose una alta relación entre el estilo de apego Segun» y nivel de de teoría de la mente. Se concluye con un análisis teórico de las posibles condiciones que estarían involucradas en la relación entre estilos de arwgo y teoría de la mente.
