This article presents the results of an investigation about the creation and development process of a help phone line service, through the perceptions of the professionals who take care of the calls and the callers who use the service. A qualitative methodological design was used. The totality of the professionals of Fonoinfancia service and sixteen users participated in the study. The results show the effectiveness of Fonoinfancia service, which is evidenced by the satisfaction of professionals and users of the service. This satisfaction responds to the good fulfillment of the objectives proposed by the Fonoinfancia service and to the positive evaluation that the users make, who find responses to their demands of assistance.Este artículo presenta los resultados de un estudio acerca del proceso de formación y desarrollo de un servicio telefónico de ayuda, a través de las percepciones de los profesionales que atienden los llamados y los usuarios que consultan al servicio. Se utilizó un diseño metodológico de carácter cualitativo. Se trabajó con la totalidad de los profesionales del servicio Fonoinfancia y con 16 usuarios. Los resultados apuntan a constatar la efectividad del servicio Fonoinfancia, efectividad que está dada por la satisfacción de los orientadores y usuarios del servicio. Esta satisfacción responde al buen cumplimiento de los objetivos propuestos por el servicio Fonoinfancia y a la evaluación positiva que hacen los usuarios, quienes encuentran repuestas a sus demandas de atención.
