dc.descriptionThis paper reports the results of an exploratory study seeking to investigate if union participation has stimulated individual empowerment processes in the labor relationships of household workers. In order to achieve this, data were collected by means of semi-structured interviews with 10 members of the only household workers’ union in Santiago, Chile. The analysis was performed using open coding according to grounded theory. The results of this study show that —based on the interviewees’ viewpoints— unionisation contributes to labor empowerment if combined with other conditions, chiefly, the commitment of the worker to watching over her own rights and the existence of deeply-rooted, protective labor laws.en-US
dc.descriptionEste estudio de tipo exploratorio y transversal indaga si la participación sindical de trabajadoras de casa particular ha estimulado procesos de empoderamiento individual en sus relaciones laborales. Se utilizó metodología cualitativa, recogiendo datos mediante entrevistas semi-estructuradas a las 10 socias del único sindicato del rubro existente en Santiago de Chile. Para el análisis se realizó codificación abierta, según los procedimientos de la grounded theory. Los resultados indicaron que para las socias la sindicalización contribuye al empoderamiento laboral si se conjuga con otras condiciones, principalmente, la determinación de la trabajadora a velar por sus derechos y la existencia de leyes laborales protectoras arraigadas en la sociedad. es-ES
