| dc.description | Global scale climate change is affecting different ecosystems, including glaciers, main freshwater reserve on the planet. The main objective of this work was to determine the surface changes in the glacial coverings of the Nevados de Chillán-Volcanic Complex and relate them to meteorological variations to understand the effects of climate change on this type of ecosystem. Through a multitemporal analysis of Landsat TM and OLI images from 3 different periods (1999, 2009 and 2019), a spectral analysis was performed based on two indexes: 1) Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and 2) Normalized Difference Snow Index (NDSI). As for the two meteorological variables analyzed, precipitation and ambient temperature, the monthly averages were considered during the same dates from which the satellite images were obtained. The results obtained in this investigation indicate a superficial decrease in the temporal evolution of glaciers when analyzing the spectral indexes. In the two meteorological variables analyzed, variations were observed that support the hypothesis of how climate change is contributing to the melting of glaciers with the increase in environmental temperatures and the decrease in rainfall in the area of study. The work carried out highlights the notable decrease in glacial surfaces and how climate change could be directly related to this process. | en-US |
| dc.description | Las variaciones climáticas a escala global están afectando a los diferentes ecosistemas, entre ellos los glaciares, principales reservas de agua dulce del planeta. El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar los cambios superficiales en las coberturas glaciares del Complejo Volcánico Nevados de Chillán y relacionarlos con las variaciones meteorológicas para entender el efecto del cambio climático sobre este tipo de ecosistemas. A través de un análisis multitemporal de imágenes Landsat TM y OLI de 3 épocas distintas (1999, 2009 y 2019). Se realizó un análisis espectral basado en dos índices: 1) Índice de Vegetación de Diferencia Normalizada (NDVI) y 2) Índice de Nieve de Diferencia Normalizada (NDSI). Dos variables meteorológicas fueron analizadas: precipitación y temperatura ambiental, Para ello, se consideró los promedios mensuales durante las mismas fechas en las que se obtuvieron las imágenes satelitales. Los resultados obtenidos en esta investigación indican una disminución superficial en la evolución temporal de los glaciares al analizar los índices espectrales. En las dos variables meteorológicas analizadas se observó variaciones que respaldan la hipótesis de como el cambio climático está contribuyendo en el derretimiento de los glaciares con el aumento en las temperaturas ambientales y la disminución de las precipitaciones en el área de estudio. El trabajo realizado deja en evidencia la notoria disminución de las superficies glaciares y como el cambio climático podría estar directamente relacionado a este proceso. | es-ES |
