The article illustrates educational research referring to representations and images of both good and bad teachers. To this end, the evolution in French language is followed since research was considered scientific until the end of the 20th century. The study distinguishes four periods that allow underlying scientific approaches to be characterized. In such context the hegemony of Psychology and its later crisis have been identifies. Additionally, the branch of Psychology built upon a specific approach aiming to study the topic is established. The last period describes how the hegemony of Psychology is strongly impugned by Sociology wich in turn is increasingly taking over this object of research. Finally, the conclusions deal with some more general and epistemological conclusions.El artículo ilustra las investigaciones que en educación han estado referidas a las imágenes y las representaciones de los buenos y malos profesores. Para ello se sigue la evolución en lengua francesa, a partir del momento en que ellas se han catalogado como científicas, y hasta el final del siglo XX. Se distinguen y se presentan cuatro períodos que permiten caracterizar los momentos y las aproximaciones científicas subyacentes. En este contexto se ha podido identificar la hegemonía de la Psicología y su posterior crisis. Se ha podido establecer además el tipo o rama de la Psicología que se construye en torno a un enfoque específico en sus intenciones de estudiar el tema. En el último período se describe cómo la hegemonía de la Psicología es impugnada vivamente por la Sociología, ciencia que parece apoderarse cada vez más de este objeto de investigación. Finalmente, en las conclusiones se abordan algunas reflexiones más generales y epistemológicas.
