| dc.description | This article presents the design and initial validation of a professional interests test, for vocational guidance purposes, aimed at Chilean public high school students. It covers professional interests, social cognitive career theory, and some considerations about the tests with which this construct is most frequently assessed. The construction of the instrument is described, addressing its 13 areas of interest. Then, the text covers its administration to a probability sample of 568 secondary school students who attend 14 public schools located in the Metropolitan and O’Higgins regions. To test the goodness-of-fit of the dimensional structure, a confirmatory factor analysis of the items was performed, using unweighted least squares estimation on the polychoric correlations matrix. Internal consistency was calculated using ordinal alpha and a concurrent validity analysis was performed. The instrument has adequate psychometric properties: good model fit, high internal consistency, and satisfactory concurrent validity. This test is recommended for evaluating professional interests in the target population thanks to several advantages: it is short, up-to-date, and easy to understand; in addition, it can be administered online, which facilitates the generation of automated reports. This can be greatly useful for supporting individual and group vocational guidance processes in educational institutions and for evaluating their intervention programs. | en-US |
| dc.description | Se presenta el diseño y validación inicial de un test de intereses profesionales con fines de orientación vocacional para estudiantes secundarios chilenos de colegios públicos científico-humanistas. Se revisan antecedentes sobre intereses profesionales, la perspectiva de la teoría sociocognitiva de carrera y consideraciones acerca de los instrumentos más utilizados para evaluar este constructo. Se describe el proceso de construcción del instrumento, con 13 áreas de interés, y su aplicación a una muestra probabilística polietápica de 568 estudiantes secundarios de 14 establecimientos científico-humanistas públicos de las regiones Metropolitana y de O'Higgins, Chile. Para poner a prueba el ajuste de la estructura dimensional a los datos, se realizó análisis factorial confirmatorio de ítems, utilizando estimación por mínimos cuadrados no ponderados sobre la matriz de correlaciones policóricas. Se evaluó la consistencia interna mediante alfa ordinal y se realizó análisis de validez concurrente. El instrumento presenta adecuadas propiedades psicométricas, incluyendo buen ajuste del modelo, alta consistencia interna y satisfactorias evidencias de validez concurrente. Se concluye que el TIPOV es recomendable para la evaluación de intereses profesionales en la población objetivo, por ser un instrumento breve, actualizado, de fácil comprensión y de aplicación en línea, lo que facilita la obtención de reportes automatizados. Esto puede ser de gran utilidad para apoyar los procesos de orientación vocacional individual y grupal en instituciones educativas y evaluar sus programas de intervención. | es-ES |
