| dc.description | El trabajo estudia las medidas sanitarias contra la epidemia de tifus exantemático en Santiago de Chile en la primera mitad de la década de 1930, con especial atención a las llamadas “Casas de Limpieza”, una de las principales estrategias implementadas por parte de las autoridades políticas y sanitarias para enfrentar la expansión de la epidemia. Las Casas de Limpieza tuvieron como tarea esencial la higiene de los contagiados pobres, quienes accedían en ellas a una ducha, corte de pelo y la desinfección de sus cuerpos y de sus ropas. | dc.description | This paper studies sanitary measures during the outbreak of epidemic typhus in Santiago, Chile, during the first half of the 30’s, with special attention to the so-called “Disinfection houses”, one of the main strategies implemented by the political and medical authorities to combat the expansion of the epidemic. The Disinfection Houses had as an essential mission the hygiene of the infected and poor members of the population, who could access a shower, haircuts, and the disinfection of their bodies and clothes. The paper is based on sources such as specialized medical press, newspapers, legislation, and literary works, and shows the first use of Disinfection Houses as a strategy to control the typhus epidemic of 1930.Keywords: Disinfection Houses, Epidemics, Typhus Epidemic, History of Chile 1930, Disinfection | en-US |
