Among the first measures to contain the advance of COVID-19 was the closure of schools at all levels of the educational system, with this there was an imminent need to generate mechanisms in which teachers could continue to carry out tasks at a distance, overcoming difficulties in the transition from face-to-face to virtual environment. Qualitative data are recovered from an open survey applied to 13 participants; fourth-year students and occupational therapist teachers who participated in the investigation “” Teaching role of the occupational therapist in higher education institutions in the metropolitan region of Chile. Four subcategories are obtained on the influence of the pandemic on the teaching role, adaptation behaviors, benefits of the pandemic on the teaching role and social dynamics in the university context during the pandemic. An over-demand of the teaching role is seen during the pandemic, making it difficult to fulfill academic objectives related to the development of basic skills for the profession. In addition, there are opportunities for the development of distance education by the occupational therapist, since he has knowledge of the environmental factors that would allow him to have an optimal performance in this modality and extrapolate it to telemedicine.Entre las primeras medidas para contener el avance del COVID-19 estuvo el cierre de los centros escolares en todos los niveles del sistema educativo, con ello apareció la inminente necesidad de generar mecanismos en los cuales los docentes pudieran seguir efectuando labores a distancia, sobrellevando dificultades en la transición del ambiente presencial al virtual. Se rescatan datos cualitativos de una encuesta abierta aplicada a 13 participantes; estudiantes de cuarto año y docentes terapeutas ocupacionales que participaron de la investigación “Rol docente del terapeuta ocupacional en instituciones de educación superior en la región metropolitana de Chile”. Se obtienen cuatro subcategorías sobre la influencia de la pandemia en el rol docente, las conductas de adaptación, beneficios de la pandemia sobre el rol docente y la dinámica social en el contexto universitario durante la pandemia. Se visualiza una sobre demanda del rol docente durante la pandemia, dificultando el cumplimiento de objetivos académicos relacionados al desarrollo de habilidades básicas para la profesión. Además, de oportunidades para el desarrollo de la educación a distancia por parte del terapeuta ocupacional, ya que este cuenta con conocimientos de los factores medioambientales que le permitirían tener un desempeño óptimo en dicha modalidad y extrapolarlo a la telemedicina.
