In this research the author maintains that neither the State of Chile nor the Catholic Church in Chile imposed the religious marriage to those who are non-catholic, but rather that there were civil effects recognized to marriage of dissidents and non-believers in such a way that this monopoly of the Church over marriage did not exist, discarding the thesis of the so-called catholic imposition that can still be found in official documents of the Chilean Episcopate. It then states that with article 20 of the Law 19.947 there has been a qualitative change in the Chilean society where Catholics are the "new dissidents".Por medio de este estudio, el autor sostiene que ni el Estado de Chile ni la Iglesia Católica en Chile impusieron el matrimonio canónico a los no católicos, sino que se reconocieron efectos civiles al matrimonio de disidentes y no creyentes de tal modo que afirma que el mentado monopolio de la Iglesia sobre el matrimonio no existió, afirmando que se hecha por tierra, la tesis de la pretendida imposición católica que aún se encuentra en documentos oficiales del Episcopado chileno. Y luego afirma que con el artículo 20 de la Ley 19.947 se ha producido un cambio cualitativo en la sociedad chilena donde los católicos son los "nuevos disidentes".
