Partiendo de la discusión entre segregación residencial e integración social, este artículo analiza la evaluación de diversos aspectos del hábitat residencial de dos proyectos de vivienda social ejecutados por el Ministerio de Vivienda y Urbanismo en el Gran Concepción, Chile. Los proyectos buscaban resolver los problemas habitacionales de 4.140 familias que residían en asentamientos irregulares a través de dos estrategias contrapuestas: en un caso, vía radicación en áreas centrales de la ciudad; en otro, vía erradicación en la periferia urbana. Los datos recogen la evaluación de las familias beneficiarias a través de un estudio cuantitativo que consideró un diseño de encuestas con una muestra total 1.130 familias. Los resultados indican que, con independencia de la estrategia de operación de los proyectos habitacionales, las familias evalúan positivamente la vivienda y negativamente el barrio. En particular, se observa una percepción de heterogeneidad social que difiere de las condiciones objetivas, una evaluación negativa de los vecinos y las relaciones sociales en el espacio intrabarrial, reflejando una clara tendencia de distinción y diferenciación. Los resultados del estudio abren nuevas interrogantes en la discusión sobre la integración social en conjuntos de vivienda social.Starting from the discussion between residential segregation and social integration, this article analyzes the evaluation of various aspects of the residential habitat of two social housing projects executed by the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism in Gran Concepción, Chile. The projects sought to solve the housing problems of 4,140 families who resided in irregular settlements through two opposing strategies: in one case via settlement in central areas of the city and in another via eradication to the urban periphery. The data collects the evaluation of the beneficiary families through a quantitative study that considered a survey design with a total sample of 1,130 families. The results indicate that, regardless of the operating strategy of housing projects, families evaluate the home positively and the neighborhood negatively. In particular, a perception of social heterogeneity is observed that differs from the objective conditions, a negative evaluation of the neighbors and the social relations in the intra-neighborhood space, reflecting a clear tendency of distinction and differentiation. The results of the study open new questions in the discussion about social integration in social housing complexes.
