dc.descriptionAs result o[ a critical analysis about the process for to given form to the Institute of Geography at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, the author show two periods. The first one it is a summary about previous work developed by homestead geographer's in order to transform the primigenial activities, in order to open an realistic, pragmatic and extensive field on geographical studies field. In relation with this, some notices about Institute establishing and founders are presented with good evidences; in this way methodological and theoretical aspects are discussed, specially for to identify options and to delimit the individuality of geographer's at Sume. The second period is a survey about thought geographical tendencies -traditionalism, location theory and properly identity- wich gave efficiency and feeling to activities and geographical works at this University. Finally, as an evaluation of twenty years, effort results are revised on a global way.en-US
dc.descriptionLa revisión, sistematización y análisis crítico del camino recorrido por los geógrafos de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile en los primeros veinte años de existencia del Instituto de Geografía es el tema central de la contribución. Para ello, se revisa someramente el quehacer geográfico anterior a 1970, entrando con cierta amplitud en los detalles de la fundación y en el proceso de búsqueda de opciones teóricas y metodológicas que delimiten la identidad propia de la geografía y de los geógrafos de la Casa. En tres grandes apartados se configuran las corrientes del pensamiento básico -tradicionalismo, teoría locacional, identidad propia- que han dado fuerza y sentido a la institucionalización del quehacer en esta Universidad. Finalmente, a modo de evaluación, se revisan globalmente los resultados de la gestión.es-ES
