The present paper is the outcome of a study of the participation of Chile in the “blue revolution”, the fast increase of the production of fish and shellfish based on new tecnology. Some regions in Chile offer excelent conditions for aquiculture of salmon and shellfish. The increase of fishmeal production is favouring the transformation of protein. But there are not only positive efects; environmental problems which are mainly depending on air and water pollution are pointed out.El presente artículo constituye los resultados de un trabajo sobre la participación de Chile en la “revolución azul”, el aumento rápido de la producción de peces y mariscos en base de nuevas tecnologías. Algunas regiones de Chile tienen condiciones muy favorables para la acuicultura de salmón, mariscos y crustáceos. Además, la gran producción de harina de pescado favorece su transformación en proteínas. El aumento ha generado no solamente efectos positivos sino también problemas ambientales que son relacionados principalmente con la contaminación del aire y de aguas.
