This paper presents figures and graphs, which place the Chilean scientific research within the Latin-American and world context. Then the architectural projects which applied for funds to FONDECYT in 1995, 1996, 1997 are reviewed in order to determine whether they were granted the founds and finally the stand the Chilean and French architects and schools of architecture have had in relation to scientific research.En este artículo se dan ciertas cifras y ciertos gráficos que ubican la investigación científica nacional en el continente latinoamericano y en el mundo. Luego se analiza la suerte que los proyectos de arquitectura y urbanismo corrieron en los concursos FONDECYT de 1995, 1996 y 1997; y se estima, por último, la posición ante la investigación científica que han tenido los arquitectos y las escuelas de arquitectura de Francia y de Chile.
