A summarized recount of the main contributions to the theoretical debate, and proposals for the housing process done by the Instituto de la Vivienda, (Housing Institute) in the last 20 years, as a result of investigations, conferences, workshops, seminars and academic activities, that has been centered on topics considered relevant to the times when they were implemented. Also, the challenges of the housing sector that are foreseen as needed to be approached in the following years.Se realiza un recuento sintético de las principales contribuciones al debate teórico y propuestas sobre el proceso habitacional que el Instituto de la Vivienda ha realizado en estos 20 años, producto de investigaciones, asistencia técnica, debates, jornadas, talleres de coyuntura, seminarios y acciones docentes, que se han ido centrando en tópicos considerados relevantes según la coyuntura en que le ha tocado desarrollar su quehacer. También se presentan los desafíos del sector vivienda que actualmente se visualizan como necesario abordar en los próximos años.
