The article explores the daily neighborhood experiences of senior citizens' and how they think and live in their current neighborhood. It is based on the results of participatory research conducted in 2019 with 51 long-term residents of three neighborhoods in Valparaiso, Chile. Based on accounts of their past and current experiences, the paper focuses on the nostalgias they express for their old neighborhoods that, according to them, are no longer existing today. These nostalgias give rise to dystopian representations and imaginaries that they associate with their present neighborhoods. From the analysis of these dystopian representations and imaginaries, the article shows that these inhabitants' neighborhood trajectory reveals a desired neighborhood community, linked to a past that never fully materialized. In this sense, the article poses that the neighborhood is thought and conceived as a dystopian place, in tension between desires and yearnings for an idealized past and disconformity for the current situation.El artículo se interesa en experiencias barriales cotidianas de adultos mayores y en la forma en que estos piensan y viven su barrio actual. Se basa en resultados de una investigación participativa realizada en 2019 con 51 residentes de larga estancia en tres barrios de Valparaíso (Chile). A partir de los relatos sobre sus experiencias pasadas y actuales, el trabajo se focaliza en las nostalgias que expresan respecto a su barrio de antes que, según ellos, hoy no existirían más. Estas nostalgias hacen aparecer representaciones e imaginarios distópicos que asocian con su barrio de hoy. A partir del análisis de estas representaciones y estos imaginarios distópicos, el artículo muestra que la trayectoria barrial descrita por los habitantes revela una comunidad barrial deseada, vinculada con un pasado que nunca se concretó totalmente. En este sentido, el artículo plantea que para estos habitantes el barrio se piensa y se concibe como lugar distópico, tensionado entre deseos y anhelos por un pasado idealizado y disconformidad por la situación actual.
