The article examines how historical trauma has been explored through documentary film, considering difficulties such as constituting a witness to an event which sometimes does not have any material evidence or witnesses, and which can be unavailable to its victims due to post-traumatic psychological mechanisms. The Chilean 9/11; trauma, testimony and liberation through documentary film looks at how films such as Santiago Alvarez's El Tigre Saltó y Mató  and Patricio Guzman's Salvador Allendeconfront the events that occurred after the Chilean Coup d' Etat in 1973, specifically analyzing the narrative structures and resources that were used to give an account of this traumatic event as well as documentary film's liberating potential.El artículo examina cómo experiencias de trauma histórico han sido abordadas desde el cine documental por medio de la construcción del testimonio de un evento que muchas veces no cuenta con testigos ni evidencia directa, y que en ocasiones se hace inaccesible debido a la existencia de mecanismos psicológicos post-traumáticos. Se revisará cómo los documentales El Tigre Saltó y Mató, pero Morirá... Morirá... de Santiago Alvarez ySalvador Allende de Patricio Guzmán abordan los hechos ocurridos tras el golpe de estado chileno el 11 de septiembre de 1973, revisando las estructuras y recursos narrativos desplegadas en estas obras para dar cuenta del evento y demostrar el potencial liberador del cine documental.
