This article aims to analyze the role that the Valdivia International Film Festival has had in the context and development of contemporary Chilean cinema. FICValdivia has consolidated itself as a crucial space for the Chilean and Latin American film industry and cinephilia, establishing itself as a central node in the global network of film festivals. By observing its history, it is possible to establish how the festival has become the exhibition space for Chilean cinema, and for a film industry that visits the festival year after year. Being part of FICValdivia is key for those who are starting their careers as filmmakers as well as for directors committed to a more authorial filmmaking. This is how the festival has positioned itself as a promoter of auteur cinema, of a certain type of Chilean cinema that will later circulate in film festivals in Chile and abroad.Este artículo tiene como objetivo analizar el rol que ha tenido el Festival Internacional de Cine de Valdivia en el contexto y desarrollo del cine chileno contemporáneo. El FICValdivia se ha consolidado como un espacio fundamental para la industria y cinefilia chilena y latinoaméricano, posicionandose como un nodo central en la red global de festivales de cine. A través de una observación de su historia, es posible establecer como el festival se ha transformado en el espacio de exhibición para el cine chileno, y para una cinefilia que visita el festival año a año. Ser parte del FICValdivia resulta clave tanto para quienes comienzan su carrera como cineastas tanto como para cineastas comprometidos por una búsqueda más autoral.
