This study raises the need to introduce the theme of power, generally absent from the analysis of Continente Feliz as well as from other colonial texts of the XVII Century, an epoch which witnessed the transfer of power from sovereignty to the disciplinary. These terms should indicate that this approach originates in M. Foucault's thesis as expounded in Watch and Punish and in his Lives of Infamous Men.El trabajo plantea la necesidad de introducir el tema del poder, ausente en general, en el análisis del Cautiverio feliz y de los textos coloniales del siglo XVII, época en que se produce el paso del poder de soberanía al poder disciplinario. Las denominaciones indican que el enfoque está hecho a partir de las tesis de Michel Foucault expuestas en Vigilar y castigar y en La vida de los hombres infames.
