Materiality of architectural works is an element that allows us to identify the presence and duration of technical moments in societies. This paper analyzes a housing design document, elaborated by the teams of the Corporación de la Vivienda between 1966 and 1972, and which were massively built in Chilean cities until 1977. It is proposed that the material composition of these works constitutes an element that allows verifying the way in which a massive group of buildings is coherent among themselves and, at the same time, shows how it was linked to the socio-material moment of its design. Thus, it is possible to account for a society that designed and built mainly with brick and wood, but also with asbestos in roofs, tiles and walls. Thus, in order to maintain this group of buildings within the society, and not to demolish them massively, both the toxic materiality has been gradually removed and the aesthetics of the buildings have been renewed, covering their previous material gestures and affecting their coherence as a massive group in favor of a new, more singular, typological identity.La materialidad de las obras de arquitectura es un elemento que permite identificar la presencia y la duración de momentos técnicos en las sociedades. En el presente texto se analiza un documento de diseño de viviendas, elaboradas por los equipos de la Corporación de la Vivienda entre 1966 y 1972, y que fueron construidas masivamente en las ciudades chilenas hasta 1977. Se propone que la composición material de estas obras constituye un elemento que permite verificar el modo como un conjunto masivo de edificaciones es coherente entre sí y, a su vez, da cuenta de la forma como estaba enlazado al momento sociomaterial de su diseño. Así es posible dar cuenta de una sociedad que diseñaba y edificaba principalmente con ladrillo y madera, pero también con asbesto en techos, lozas y paredes. De manera que para mantener ese conjunto de edificaciones dentro de la sociedad, y no derribarlas masivamente, tanto se ha retirado paulatinamente la materialidad tóxica como se ha renovado la estética de los edificios, recubriendo sus gestos materiales anteriores y afectando su coherencia de conjunto masivo a favor de una nueva identidad tipológica, más singular.
