Qualitative research, with interaccionist approach and gender perspective, whose purpose was to identify the influence of socialization in the care oí itself. The sample, fourteen women mastectomized recently, contacted in hospital and visited at homes, where a deep interview and observation of their expressive behaviors was made. The speeches were analyzed by means of the hermeneutical dialectic. The results demonstrated that the women interviewed experience the social stereotypes of the Chilean society, which is reflected in the nonappropriation of themselves in relation to their bodily, their self-esteem and in the decisión making up, becoming difficult the care of themselves. The conclusions are oriented to innóvate from our discipline, not only in actions that contribute to the early detection of the breast cáncer, but in implementing strategies of health promotion and prevention of risks for the women thus incorporating the gender thematic and giving priority to acceptance and care of their bodies since very early ages.Estudio cualitativo, con abordaje interaccionista y perspectiva de género, cuyo propósito era identificar si la socialización influye en el cuidado de sí misma. La muestra, catorce mujeres mastectomizadas recientemente, se contactó en hospital y luego en hogar, donde se realizó entrevista en profundidad y observación de comportamientos expresivos. Los discursos fueron analizados con hermenéutica dialéctica. Los resultados demuestran que mujeres entrevistadas vivencian estereotipos sociales de la sociedad chilena, reflejándose en no-apropiación de sí con relación a su corporalidad, su autoestima y en la toma de decisiones, dificultándose el cuidado de sí mismas. Las conclusiones se orientan a innovar, desde nuestra disciplina, no sólo en acciones contribuyentes a detección precoz del cáncer de mama, sino en la implementación de estrategias de promoción de salud y prevención de riesgos para las mujeres, incorporando la temática de género y dando prioridad a la aceptación y cuidado del cuerpo desde edades muy precoces.
