| dc.description | This article gives an account of how the musical fondness in Chile in the mid-nineteenth century adopted
an eminently feminine character. I propose as hypothesis the existence of a series of arguments of different
kinds that ended up cementing an ideology that associated women with the field of feelings and sensitivity.
In that sense, the musical practice became an appropriate pastime for women because of the connection
between music and emotion, and because it also could be practiced in the private space of the home, thus

| dc.description | El presente artículo da cuenta de cómo la afición musical en Chile a mediados del siglo XIX adoptó un
carácter eminentemente femenino. Propongo como hipótesis la existencia de una serie de argumentos de
distinta índole que terminaron por cimentar una ideología que asociaba a las mujeres con el ámbito de los
sentimientos y la sensibilidad. En ese sentido, la práctica musical pasó a ser un pasatiempo apropiado para
las mujeres por la conexión entre música y emoción, y también porque podía ser practicado en el espacio
privado del hogar, resguardando así el honor familiar. | es-ES |
