| dc.description | The present article evidences the relationship between social capital and economic development in the construction, promotion and consolidation of tourist activity in the Andean community of Yunguilla, located northwest of Quito, capital of Ecuador, in the middle of the cloud forest characterized by its high biodiversity for being part of the Andean Chocó. The research pays special attention to the benefits obtained in the community by promoting its interests and its ramifications, beyond the traditional agricultural and livestock vocation, towards the community tourist field, as an activity that has allowed the improvement of living conditions of its inhabitants and the increase in their income. The research carried out, in the first instance, a theoretical review of the concept of social capital and the binding principles of community based on figures such as trust, cooperative logics and reciprocity to demonstrate the economic effects on the diversification of productive activities and their direct relationship with the community tourism and, in a second instance, the results registered by the community were evaluated beyond the phenomena linked to a development model based on an activity that also faces problems such as limitations for its sustainability and appropriation by the visitor receiving communities. | dc.description | El presente artículo evidencia la relación existente entre capital social y desa-rrollo económico en la construcción, promoción y consolidación de la actividad turística en la comunidad andina de Yunguilla, ubicada al noroccidente de Quito, capital de Ecuador, en medio del bosque nublado que se caracteriza por su alta biodiversidad por ser parte del Chocó Andino. La investigación presta especial atención a los beneficios obtenidos en la comunidad por el fomento de sus in-tereses y sus ramificaciones, más allá de la tradicional vocación agropecuaria, hacia el campo turístico comunitario, en tanto una actividad que ha permitido la mejora de las condiciones de vida de sus pobladores y el incremento de sus ingre-sos. La investigación realizó en, una primera instancia, una revisión teórica del concepto de capital social y los principios vinculantes de comunidad basados en figuras como la confianza, lógicas cooperativas y reciprocidad para evidenciar los efectos económicos en la diversificación de actividades productivas y su relación directa con el turismo comunitario y, en una segunda instancia, se evaluaron los resultados registrados por la comunidad más allá de los fenómenos vinculados con un modelo desarrollo basado en una actividad que enfrenta igualmente pro-blemas como las limitaciones para su sostenibilidad y apropiación por parte de las comunidades receptoras de visitantes.
