dc.descriptionThis article analyses the relationship between international news agencies and the media companies of the Communist Party of Chile during World War II. Based on an analysis of Frente Popular and El Siglo and documentary evidence from a number of archives, I argue that Chilean Communists made significant efforts to provide news coming from abroad and established links with several news services, whose goals and interests differed, among which the American agencies United Press and Associated Press, the German agency Transocean, and the Soviet agency TASS played a prominent role. Nevertheless, the difficulties of obtaining a substantial amount of news from ideologically reliable sources forced them to depend in large part of US news agencies and to use these and other sources of information instrumentally.en-US
dc.descriptionEste artículo analiza las relaciones entre las empresas periodísticas del Partido Comunista de Chile y las agencias internacionales de noticias durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. En base a un análisis de Frente Popular y El Siglo y documentación de diversos archivos, concluimos que los comunistas chilenos hicieron ingentes esfuerzos por proveerse de información noticiosa proveniente del exterior, estableciendo vínculos con distintas agencias, que tenían intereses y objetivos disímiles, entre las que destacan las estadounidenses United Press y Associated Press, la alemana Transocean y la soviética TASS/SUPress. Ahora bien, la dificultad para proveerse una cantidad sustantiva de información noticiosa ideológicamente confiable los obligó a utilizar de manera instrumental la mayor parte de estas fuentes.es-ES

Com base na análise de Frente Popular e El Siglo e em documentação de vários arquivos, concluímos que os comunistas chilenos fizeram enormes esforços para se proverem de notícias do exterior, estabelecendo vínculos com diferentes agências com interesses e objetivos diversos, entre as quais os Estados Unidos Destacam-se a States Press e a Associated Press, a alemã Transocean e a soviética TASS / SUPress. No entanto, a dificuldade em se fornecer uma quantidade substancial de informações de notícias ideologicamente confiáveis ​​os forçou a usar a maioria dessas fontes de forma instrumental.pt-PT
