dc.descriptionThe aim of this article is to analyse Mary Wollstonecraft's defence of egalitarian education against Rousseau's proposal of sexual politics. To account for this polemic, we contextualise the debate within the Enlightenment, specifically in the emergence of feminist theory. In the first part of the article, we will analyse the importance of the universalising abstractions that emerged in the Enlightenment in the erosion of the hierarchies that legitimised the inferiority of women in relation to men. The pedagogy proposed by Rousseau, despite being framed within the framework of Enlightenment thought, posed serious difficulties for the claims ofequality of the emerging feminist thought. Mary Wollstonecraft, in a veritable exercise in the philosophy of suspicion, will give an account of the ploy used by Rousseau to legitimise the inferiority of women and thus justify Sophia's unequal education.en-US
dc.descriptionEl objetivo del artículo es analizar la defensa de la educación igualitaria realizada por Mary Wollstonecraft frente a la propuesta de política sexual realizada por Rousseau. Dar cuenta de esta polémica nos lleva a contextualizar el debate en el seno de la Ilustración, en concreto, en el surgimiento de la teoría feminista. En la primera parte del artículo, analizaremos la importancia que tienen las abstracciones universalizadoras que emergen en la Ilustración en la erosión de las jerarquías que legitimaban la inferioridad de las mujeres respecto a los hombres. La pedagogía propuesta por Rousseau, pese a enmarcarse en el pensamientoilustrado, plantea serias dificultades a las pretensiones de igualdad del emergente pensamiento feminista. Mary Wollstonecraft dará cuenta, en un auténtico ejercicio de filosofía de la sospecha, del ardid utilizado por Rousseau para legitimar la inferioridad de las mujeres y justificar, de este modo, la desigual educación de Sofía.es-ES
