| dc.description | Despite its undoubted contributions and originality, several authors have been pointing out the limitations of Ernesto Laclau's theory of Populism, mainly from the developments in The Populist Reason. Whether because of its formalism, the opposition between Mobilization and Institutionalization (shared with Chantal Mouffe) or the conflation of populist logic with that of politics in general, recent criticisms aim to go beyond Laclau. In this article we seek to sociologize Laclau's theory including in its formal logic an ontic and structural logic linked to cleavage theory. From this perspective, we propose to understand populism as a project anda political regime that is explained by what we call a Populist Process that distinguishes three instances: moment, phenomenon and regime. For this purpose we make, in the first place, a general reference to the formal character of the populist articulation and how the mobilization-institutionalization border is built in Laclau and Mouffe; then we inquire about what we mean by populist process; and finally, we raise the possibility of studying populism from a logic based on what we have called horizontal and vertical cleavages, a proposal that although itis not dependent on processual theory, converses with it by also demanding a perspective of sociological analysis and not only of political events when talking about populist cleavage. | en-US |
| dc.description | Más allá de sus indudables aportes y originalidad, varios autores vienen señalando las limitaciones de la teoría de Ernesto Laclau sobre el populismo, principalmente a partir de los desarrollos en La Razón Populista. Sea por su formalismo, por la oposición entre movilización e institucionalización (compartida con Chantal Mouffe) o por la fusión de la lógica populista con la de la política sin más, las críticas recientes apuntan a ir más allá de Laclau. En este artículo buscamos sociologizar la teoría de Laclau dotando a la lógica formal de un contenido ónticoy estructural vinculado con la teoría de clivajes. Bajo esta perspectiva, proponemos entender al populismo como un proyecto y régimen político que se explica mediante lo que denominamos un proceso populista que distingue tres instancias: momento, fenómeno y régimen. Para ello hacemos, en primer lugar, una referencia general al carácter formal de la articulación populista y cómo se construye la frontera entre movilización e institucionalización en Laclau y Mouffe; luego indagamos respecto a lo que entendemos por proceso populista; y en último lugar, planteamos la posibilidad de estudiar al populismo desde una lógica de lo que hemos denominado clivajes horizontales y verticales, propuesta que, si bien no es dependiente de la teoría procesual, conversa con ella al exigir también una perspectiva de análisis sociológico ―y no solo del acontecer político― cuando se habla de clivaje populista. | es-ES |
