The objective of this paper is to problematize the scientific knowledge from a sociological perspective applying the approach of Niklas Luhmann' General Theory of Social Systems. Particularly, we analyze the construction form of scientific knowledge on HIV/AIDS as a product of the scientific functional system and we analyze the implications of using concepts such as distinction, system/environment, autopoiesis, differentiation and structural coupling for the observation and construction of a scientific fact. This led us to a discussion with traditional proposals of the social studies of science and their theoretical presuppositions.El objetivo de este trabajo es problematizar el conocimiento científico desde una perspectiva sociológica a partir de la propuesta de la teoría general de los sistemas Sociales de Niklas Luhmann. En particular, se analiza la forma de construcción del conocimiento científico sobre el VIH/SIDA como un producto del sistema funcional científico y se reflexiona sobre las implicaciones que derivan de la utilización de conceptos como distinción, sistema/entorno, autopoiesis, diferenciación y acoplamiento estructural en la observación y construcción de un hecho científico. Ello nos sitúa en un debate con las propuestas tradicionalmente ofrecidas por los estudios sociales de la ciencia, así como con sus respectivos presupuestos teóricos.
