dc.descriptionThe complexity of contemporary society forces sociology to progressively refine its theoretical and methodological approaches. Particularly the sociology of religion today is required to update its conceptual yields. In the current debate on the concept of secularization and the functions attributed to religion, this article highlights a perspective of observation based on the theory of social systems to address emerging phenomena in Christianity in Europe, North and Latin America, described as religious variations. The discussion uses empirical data pertaining to an ongoing research and it concludes that the application of the theory of social systems together with qualitative research methodologies allows a better understanding of the specificity of such religious variations and their possibilities of social acceptance.en-US
dc.descriptionLa complejidad de la sociedad contemporánea obliga a la sociología a refinar progresivamente sus aprontes teóricos y metodológicos. Particularmente la sociología de la religión se ve hoy exigida a actualizar sus rendimientos conceptuales. En el debate sobre el concepto de secularización y las funciones atribuidas a la religión, este artículo releva una perspectiva de observación basada en la teoría de sistemas sociales para abordar fenómenos emergentes en el cristianismo europeo, norteamericano y latinoamericano, descritos como variaciones religiosas. La discusión utiliza datos pertenecientes a una investigación empírica en curso y concluye que la aplicación de la teoría de sistemas sociales junto a metodologías cualitativas de investigación permite comprender mejor la especificidad de tales variaciones religiosas y sus posibilidades de aceptación social.es-ES
