dc.description	Based on documents from the Historical Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and within the framework of the Western Hemisphere Defense Policy, we examine one aspect of the bilateral relations between Chile and the United States surrounding the “copper problem”. This relationship was marked by convergence and divergence depending on the fact that as soon as the Korean War broke out, the White House needed the cooperation of the whole hemisphere in terms of the provision of strategic raw materials, while Chile required a better price for its copper, foundation of its economic stability, arguments that were ultimately rejected by the State Department.	en-US
dc.description	En base a documentos del Archivo Histórico del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores y en el marco de la Política de Defensa del Hemisferio Occidental, se examina un aspecto de las relaciones bilaterales entre Chile y Estados Unidos en torno al ‘problema del cobre’. Esta relación estuvo signada por la convergencia y la divergencia en función de que, una vez estallada la Guerra de Corea, la Casa Blanca necesitó de toda la cooperación hemisférica en cuanto a provisión de materias primas estratégicas, y de que Chile requirió de un mejor precio para su cobre, base de la estabilidad económica, argumentos que en definitiva fueron rechazados por el Departamento de Estado.	es-ES
