The purpose of this study is to establish a thought on the need to create the artistic work due to the "intolerable absence" of the historical event, according to the concept used by Roger Chartier. In this way, we will delve into the materialization of this event through the installation work.  This is how we observe that art, in its interaction with public space, has the ability to generate an important discourse of its social environment. This debate is focused on the memory of the “Unidad Popular” from which the “Torre Villavicencio” becomes relevant as a symbol of the ideals of an absent era. In this regard, through the installation "La torre vive" (2018) by Janet Toro, this space is once again in force and enters into discussion with the public debates of this period of study. For this same reason, this research is framed within the limits of cultural history relative to representations and practices, by understanding, firstly, the historical event through the need for artistic creation, and, on the other hand, the existing relationship with the social actors that participate in this dialogue.El presente estudio tiene el propósito de establecer una reflexión sobre la necesidad de creación de la obra artística a causa de la "ausencia intolerable" del hecho histórico, de acuerdo al concepto utilizado por Roger Chartier. De esta manera, profundizaremos en la materialización de este hecho a través de la obra instalativa. Es así como observamos que el arte, en su interacción con el espacio público, tiene la capacidad de generar un discurso importante de su entorno social. Este debate está centrado en la memoria de la Unidad Popular a partir de la cual la Torre Villavicencio, toma relevancia como símbolo de los ideales de una época ausente. Al respecto, a través de la instalación "La torre vive" (2018) de Janet Toro, este espacio entra en discusión con los debates públicos de la época y los distintos actores sociales que aparecen. Por esta misma razón, esta investigación se enmarca en los límites de la historia cultural relativo a las prácticas y representaciones, al analizar el arte en relación a los actores que participan en este diálogo y el aspecto político que rodea este debate.
