dc.descriptionThe city of Viña del Mar was consolidated between the 1930s and 1970s as an expression of the ideology and forms of the Modern Movement, becoming a "recreational seaside resort" that favoured tourist and residential development, in parallel with industrial and population growth and the requirements of social welfare.The research documented through archives and photographic records, together with the historical and morphological analysis of architectural attributes and the perceptions of the communities, expands the record of modern architecture in Viña del Mar, with the registration of more than 150 buildings and a selection of 32 exemplary cases of local expressions of modernity.The conclusions reveal the particularities of a sample of rational architecture, valuable for its link with urban history, its relationship with the landscape, the challenge of topography, the response to regulations, and the realisation of ambitious social plans.en-US
dc.descriptionLa ciudad de Viña del Mar se consolidó entre las décadas de 1930 y 1970 como expresión del ideario y las formas del Movimiento Moderno, transformándose en un “balneario recreativo”, que privilegió el desarrollo turístico y residencial, de forma paralela al crecimiento industrial, poblacional y a los requerimientos de bienestar social. La investigación documentada a través de archivos y registro fotográfico, junto al análisis histórico y morfológico de los atributos arquitectónicos y las percepciones de las comunidades, amplía el registro de la arquitectura moderna de Viña del Mar, con el catastro de más de 150 edificios y una selección de 32 casos ejemplares de las expresiones locales de la modernidad. Las conclusiones develan las particularidades de un muestrario de arquitectura racional, valorable por su vinculación con la historia urbana, su relación con el paisaje, el desafío de la topografía, la respuesta a las regulaciones, concretando ambiciosos planes sociales.es-ES
