| dc.description | This paper presents an exploratory study of the music band of Melipilla, in central Chile, founded in 1898 and still in existence. My focus is on the historic and social context of the group, within the context of military bands in Chile, and popular festivities and sociability in Melipilla in the last quarter of the 19th century. Two new primary sources allow me to explore the ways in which the band was founded, as well as its early internal workings, members and instruments. Considering biographical information on the members of the band, my hypothesis is that several were Peruvian and Bolivian in origin, and that the band served as a place for sociability and the creation of social networks for them and the Chilean musicians original from the town. | en-US |
| dc.description | Este trabajo presenta como tema de estudio de carácter exploratorio la banda de músicos de Melipilla a fines del siglo XIX, agrupación musical vigente hasta el día de hoy. Para complementar el contexto histórico-social de esta agrupación musical presento algunos antecedentes sobre el origen de las bandas militares en Chile y describo el contexto de sociabilidad popular y de carácter festivo en Melipilla durante el último cuarto del siglo XIX. Particularmente comento dos nuevas fuentes primarias que me permiten abordar tanto la “sesión de instalación de banda de músicos”, como su funcionamiento y las nóminas e instrumentos de sus integrantes. Como desarrollo del problema de investigación entrego antecedentes biográficos de los músicos que me permiten confirmar la hipótesis de que varios de ellos eran de origen peruano y boliviano y planteo también, que el contexto de sociabilidad de la banda permitió la creación de lazos de compañerismo y de empatía entre los músicos. | es-ES |
