| dc.description | The temples of the Ancient Near East were also institutions that were beyondthe religious because some of them became highly active in political and economic spheres. Besides, it should be considered the Hellenistic impact and its notion ofworld center or omphalos which was adopted in the temple of Jerusalem allowingit became a epicenter for Jews and non-Jews. Thus, on the one hand, after the revoltof the Maccabeus, the role of Jerusalem was increased as the distinctive epicenter ofJudaism of that period with respect to other peoples; on the other hand, the control ofthe temple in Jerusalem was the ideal instrument for foreign factual powers to exertinfluence and domination over the Jewish people, either using the local priesthoodor investing in its architectural remodeling for their own interests. | dc.description | Los templos en el Antiguo Próximo Oriente fueron instituciones que abarcaronmás allá de lo religioso hasta alcanzar esferas políticas y económicas sumamenteactivas. Si a ello le agregamos el impacto helenístico de la noción de centro mundial uomphalos, veremos que templos como el de Jerusalén se convirtieron rápidamente enun centro neurálgico para judíos y no judíos. Así, por un lado, después de la revueltade los Macabeos, se acrecentó el papel de Jerusalén como epicentro distintivo delJudaísmo de la época con respecto a otros pueblos; por otro lado, el control de templode Jerusalén fue el instrumento ideal por parte de poderes fácticos extranjeros paraejercer influencia y dominación sobre el pueblo judío, sea utilizando al sacerdociolocal o invirtiendo en su remodelación arquitectónica para intereses propios.
