| dc.description | This article analyzes the case of "uprising and looting by Chilean laborers in Carolina and Porvenir offices". These machine saltpeter works were located inside the ports of Pisagua and Junín (Province of Tarapaca), whose owners were predominant companies, Casa Gibbs Cª and Compañía Tarapaqueña Lafuente y Sobrino, respectively. It is set out through a historiographical analysis of primary (press) and secondary (bibliography) sources that this would be one of the first indications of workers protest that the newspapers used to confuse with ordinary crime or with conflicts of nationalities. These rebellions were produced due to the arbitrary change of workers wages, supposedly a product of the economic crisis of 1867. | en-US |
| dc.description | En este artículo se analiza el caso de “sublevación y saqueo por parte de peones chilenos en las oficinas Carolina y Porvenir”. Estas salitreras de Máquina estaban localizadas al interior de los puertos de Pisagua y Junín (Provincia de Tarapacá), cuyos propietarios eran empresas dominantes, la Casa Gibbs Cª y la Compañía tarapaqueña Lafuente y Sobrino, respectivamente. Se plantea mediante un análisis historiográfico de fuentes primarias (prensa) y secundarias (bibliografía) que este sería uno de los primeros indicios de protesta obrera que los periódicos solían confundir con delincuencia común o con conflictos de nacionalidades. Estas rebeliones se generaron debido al cambio arbitrario de los salarios de los trabajadores, supuestamente producto de la crisis económica de 1867. | es-ES |
