dc.description	The characteristics of the municipal cemetery of Chillán are reviewed in the context of the creation of norms that separated the Catholic Church from the administration of the Chilean State in relation to death in the city. The law of secular cemeteries is of historical importance, since its promulgation provoked polarization in the country between those who were faithful followers of the Catholic Church and the rites traditionally administered by it, and those who proposed a more liberal ideology, with state control over the main aspects of human activity, such as death. The study describes the regulatory process that led to the Law of Secular Cemeteries as a tool to reduce inequality in Chillán society and the implications of the construction of a municipal cemetery in Chillán.	en-US
dc.description	Se revisan las características del cementerio municipal de Chillán en el contexto que representa la creación de normas que separaban a la iglesia católica de la administración del Estado chileno respecto de la muerte en la ciudad. La ley de cementerios laicos posee una importancia histórica, producto que su promulgación provocó polarización en el país entre quienes eran fieles seguidores de la iglesia católica y los ritos que tradicionalmente esta administraba, y quienes proponían una ideología más liberal, con un control estatal sobre los principales aspectos del quehacer humano, como la muerte. El estudio describe el proceso normativo que desembocó en la Ley de Cementerios Laicos como herramienta para disminuir la desigualdad en la sociedad chillaneja y las implicancias de la construcción de un cementerio municipal en Chillán.	es-ES
