The "Social Outburst", which occurred in October 2019 in Chile, affected not only the young and adult population, but also children. For this reason, this research sought to understand the social representations of boys and girls about this event. For this, a qualitative and interpretive study was carried out, applying semi-structured individual interviews to 10 boys and girls, between 12 and 13 years old, from public and private subsidized establishments in Viña del Mar (Chile), which were analyzed following the guidelines of the Grounded Theory. The results show that the boys and girls in this study represent the social outbreak as a social conflict that began because of discontent on the part of the citizenry, due to the injustices experienced over the years. In addition, they associate different concepts to the conflict and make positive, negative, and neutral assessments of it, showing a great capacity to make judgments about what surrounds them. The need to invest time in and analyze children's perspectives is concluded, not only because girls and boys can have an opinion regarding what happens both in everyday life and in transcendental events, but also because they represent the future of society.El “Estallido social”, ocurrido en octubre del 2019 en Chile, afectó no sólo a la población joven y adulta, sino también a la infantil. Por este motivo, esta investigación buscó comprender las representaciones sociales de niños y niñas sobre este acontecimiento. Para ello, se realizó un estudio cualitativo e interpretativo, aplicando entrevistas individuales semiestructuradas a 10 niños y niñas, entre 12 y 13 años, de establecimientos públicos y particulares subvencionados de Viña del Mar (Chile), las que fueron analizadas siguiendo los lineamientos de la Teoría Fundamentada. Los resultados muestran que los niños y niñas de este estudio representan el estallido social como un conflicto social que inició a causa del descontento por parte de la ciudadanía, debido a las injusticias experimentadas a lo largo de los años. Además, asocian diferentes conceptos al conflicto y realizan valoraciones positivas, negativas y neutras del mismo, evidenciando gran capacidad para emitir juicios respecto de lo que les rodea. Se concluye la necesidad de invertir tiempo en escuchar y analizar las perspectivas infantiles, no sólo porque los niños y las niñas pueden llegar a tener una opinión respecto de lo que sucede tanto en la cotidianidad como en hechos trascendentales, sino porque representan el futuro de la sociedad.
