dc.descriptionReading is an important indicator of the academic achievement, especially at university, where there is a tendency to use scientific texts as curricular material. The purpose of this study was to analyse the reading of scientific texts and its relation to sociodemographic and reading habit variables among university students. The sample size was composed of 277 university students (20.7% male; 79.3% female) who completed an ad hoc questionnaire, validated by the interjudge reliability. The results highlight that females read more journals than males; there was a positive correlation between age and academic level with articles, books and manuals and between the reading by pleasure and the reading of articles. Articles, books and manuals had a positive relationship with lessons acquired from reading, while journals correlated with a decrease of imagination. A further promotion of reading from formal education (compulsory and university) was observed.en-US
dc.descriptionLa lectura es un indicador importante del éxito académico, especialmente en la universidad, donde impera la tendencia de emplear publicaciones científicas como material disciplinar. El objetivo del presente artículo fue analizar las lecturas científicas realizadas por alumnado universitario y su relación con determinadas variables sociodemográficas y relativas al hábito lector. Participaron 277 estudiantes universitarios (20.7% hombres; 79.3% mujeres) cumplimentando un cuestionario ad hoc, validado por el método interjueces. Los resultados evidenciaron que las mujeres leyeron más revistas que los hombres; la edad y el curso mostraron una relación positiva con los artículos, libros y manuales, y entre la lectura por placer y la lectura de artículos; los artículos, libros y manuales se relacionaron de manera positiva con diversos aprendizajes adquiridos a partir de la lectura, mientras que las revistas correlacionaron con una disminución de la imaginación. Se observó un mayor fomento de lecturas desde la educación formal (obligatoria y universitaria).es-ES
