| dc.description | The modernization of Chile’s Army is a process that has taken place organically throughout the years, however, there exist events that have accelerated said process. As a result of the War of the Pacific, the need for the acceleration of the modernization process was stated, and to that end, the hiring of the prussian instructor Emil Körner was carried out after the war. The instructor’s vision led to a series of reforms and reorganization that brought the Army closer to the prussian model of organization and instruction, and pushed it to professionalization. Körner was one of the key players in the adoption of the prussian model in Chile’s Army under the so-called prussianization process, one that meant a constant looking towards Germany as a source of inspiration. The effects of prussianization lasted for a long time, and even though they impacted a wide range of areas, ones that prove interesting to analyze are the ones from the academic and instructional levels. As such, the present analysis carries out a general review to later focus on academic reforms and how they made way to the creation of the Military Geographic Institute, and how it evolved with the passage of time. | en-US |
| dc.description | La modernización del Ejército de Chile es un proceso que se ha dado de forma orgánica con el paso de los años, no obstante, han existido eventos aceleradores de los cambios y transformaciones de dicho proceso. Como consecuencia de la Guerra del Pacífico (1879-1883) es que se planteó la necesidad de acelerar el proceso de modernización, y con ese fin, se llevó a cabo la contratación del instructor prusiano Emil Körner luego de la guerra. La visión del instructor llevó a una serie de reformas y reorganizaciones que acercaron al Ejército al modelo prusiano de organización e instrucción, y lo impulsaron hacia la profesionalización. Körner fue uno de los actores principales en la adopción del modelo prusiano en el Ejército de Chile bajo la llamada prusianización, proceso que significó una constante mirada hacia el ejército alemán como fuente de inspiración. Los efectos de la prusianización perduraron por un largo tiempo, y si bien tuvieron un impacto en diversas áreas, unas que resultan interesantes de analizar son las del plano académico y de la instrucción. Así, es que el presente análisis realiza una revisión general para luego concentrarse en reformas académicas y como ellas abrieron paso a la conformación del Instituto Geográfico Militar, el cual evolucionó con el pasar de los años. | es-ES |
