Starting from the developments in philosophy made by Jean-Luc Nancy and Maurice Blanchot in 1983 regarding the notions of ‘community’, Josef Koudelka's photographic work in Gypsies (1975) is examined. Through the descriptive analysis of a selection of images, it is proposed that these photographs not only focus on human portraits but also capture spaces and domestic objects, intimateatmospheres, and dynamics of life, incitingcommunication and highlighting diversespatial conditions of Romani communitydwelling. The article suggests that revisiting these reflections from a philosophical perspective, in conjunction with the analytical observation of the artistic work being addressed, would urge architecture to consider ‘that’ community it seeks to engage with in terms of insufficiency rather than as the product of a deterministic operation.A partir de los desarrollos que, desde la filosofía, hicieran Jean-Luc Nancy y Maurice Blanchot en 1983 con relación a las nociones de ‘comunidad’, se aborda la obra fotográfica de Josef Koudelka reunida en Gitanos (1975). Por medio del análisis descriptivo de una selección de imágenes, se propone que estas fotografías no solo reparan en retratos humanos, sino que, además, capturan espacios y objetos domésticos, atmósferas íntimas y dinámicas de vida, incitando a comunicar también condiciones espaciales diversas del habitar de la comunidad romaní. El artículo plantea que, volver sobre estas reflexiones desde la mirada filosófica, en conjunción con la observación analítica del trabajo artístico que se aborda, incitaría a la arquitectura a pensar ‘esa’ comunidad con la que intenta dialogar en términos de insuficiencia, más que como el producto de una operación determinista.
