dc.descriptionCommunity-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a major public health problem associated with high morbidity and mortality. The latest Chilean CAP guidelines were published in 2005 and in light of new evidence, it is necessary to update them. Material and methods: The “Sociedad Chilena de Enferme­dades Respiratorias”, “Sociedad Chilena de Infectología”, and “Sociedad Chilena de Medicina Fami­liar” convened a working group to update the Chilean CAP guidelines. The panel consisted of a total of ten Chilean experts, one expert from the United States, and one clinical epidemiologist. Ten clinical questions were chosen by consensus among the experts. Systematic reviews of literature searches were performed in various databases. The quality of the evidence was assessed using the GRADE system (an acronym for Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation). Results: The recommendations were the result of the work of three scientific societies and addressed questions related to epidemiology, etiology, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and prevention of CAP. Conclusions: This national guidelines provides evidence-based clinical practice recommendations for the management of CAP in immunocompetent adults, following the GRADE system.en-US
dc.descriptionLa neumonía adquirida en la comunidad (NAC) es un importante problema de salud pública asociado con una alta morbilidad y mortalidad. Las últimas guías chilenas de NAC fueron publicadas el año 2005 y a la luz de nueva evidencia se hace necesario actualizarlas. Material y métodos: La So­ciedad Chilena de Enfermedades Respiratorias, Sociedad Chilena de Infectología y Sociedad Chilena de Medicina Familiar, convocaron a un grupo de trabajo para actualizar las guías chilenas de NAC. El panel estuvo compuesto por un total de diez expertos chilenos, un experto de Estados Unidos y un epidemiólogo clínico. Se eligieron diez preguntas clínicas por consenso entre los expertos. Se realizaron búsquedas bibliográficas sistemáticas en varias bases de datos. La calidad de la evidencia se evaluó con el sistema GRADE (acrónimo de Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation). Resultados: Las recomendaciones son el resultado del trabajo de tres sociedades cientí­ficas que abordaron preguntas relacionadas con: epidemiología, etiología, diagnóstico, tratamiento, pronóstico y prevención de la NAC. Conclusiones: Esta guía nacional proporciona recomendaciones de práctica clínica basadas en la evidencia para el manejo de la NAC en adultos inmunocompetentes, siguiendo el sistema GRADE.es-ES
