This article offers some of Joseph Ratzinger’s reflections on ministry and priesthood, the primate and the collegiate and, therefore, on collegiate and synod principles. The German theologian remembers the simultaneous vertical and horizontal dimensions – human and divine in the church. As well as the inherent apostolicity and episcopacy, Ratzinger remembers the also essential instances of Catholicity and of Petrine ministry. He also expresses the necessity of preaching the Word, administering the sacraments and ministering the Church. For his part, he relates priesthood ministerial with the concept of sacrifice. Actually, he establishes continuity between Christ,the apostles and their successors and collaborators, and presbyters; through which we are reminded of the priority of the ontological-sacramental dimension of the priestly order, in terms of the merely functional one.En el presente artículo se ofrecen algunas reflexiones de Joseph Ratzinger sobre el ministerio y el sacerdocio, el primado y la colegialidad y, por tanto, por los principios de la colegialidad y la sinodalidad. El teólogo alemán recuerda las simultáneas dimensiones vertical y horizontal –humana y divina– en la Iglesia. Junto a las irrenunciables apostolicidad y episcopalidad, recuerda Ratzinger las también esenciales instancias de la catolicidad y del ministerio petrino. Manifiesta asimismo la necesidad de predicar la Palabra, administrar los sacramentos y ejercitar el ministerio de pastorear la Iglesia. A su vez, relaciona el sacerdocio ministerial con el concepto de sacrificio. En fin, establece la continuidad entre Cristo, los apóstoles y sus sucesores y colaboradores, los presbíteros; por lo que se recuerda la prioridad de la dimensión ontológicasacramental del orden sacerdotal, respecto a la meramente funcional.
