Fundamental theology which wants to meet the challenges of a postsecular society will see herself as an interpeter of Christian truth between believers, believers belonging to other religions and non-believers. She will work on the "cognitive dissonances" which exist between the traditional faith and modern society, as Jürgen Habermas suggested, and will be inspired by the ideas of Vatican Council II which consist above all in the ability to participate, to have dialogue, to read the "signs of the time" and to translate diff erent religious and secular languages. In this spirit fundamental theology will be an intellectual instrument for justifying the Christian faith n the "agora" of our time.Una teología fundamental que busca responder a los desafíos de una sociedad postsecular se entiende como “traductora” de la pretensión de verdad cristiana frente a creyentes, creyentes de otras religiones y no creyentes. Ella elaborará, tal como lo propuso Jürgen Habermas, las “disonancias cognitivas” existentes entre las tradiciones de fe y la sociedad moderna, a la vez que recuperará los impulsos provenientes del Concilio Vaticano Segundo,  especialmente aquellos referidos a la capacidad de participación, diálogo, lectura de los “signos de los tiempos“ y de traducción de los diferentes lenguajes religiosos y seculares. En este sentido, la teología fundamental es una herramienta intelectual para ejercer la justifi cación de la fe en el ágora del presente.
