dc.description	The objective of this article is to set out the context in which Pope Leo XIII’s encyclical Rerum Novarum (RN) appeared in 1891, its content and the impetus it gave to the Social Doctrine of the Church (SDC). First, the social and ecclesial scenario in which the RN encyclical came to light is presented. Second, the motivations of Pope Leo XIII in the context of the social question are described, followed by an analysis of the main aspects of the RN encyclical, such as private property, the labor relationship, just wages, the role of the state and of the Church. Finally, the impulse given by the encyclical to the DSI is presented.	en-US
dc.description	El objetivo de este artículo es exponer el contexto en el que surgió la encíclica Rerum Novarum (RN) del Papa León XIII en 1891, su contenido y el impulso que dio a la Doctrina Social de la Iglesia (DSI). Primero, se expone el escenario social y eclesial en el que la encíclica RN nació a la luz. Segundo, se describen las motivaciones del papa León XIII en el contexto de la llamada cuestión social, luego se analizan los principales aspectos de la encíclica RN como la propiedad privada, la relación trabajo, el salario justo, el rol del estado y de la Iglesia. Para fi nalizar se expone el impulso dado por la encíclica a la DSI.	es-ES
