The biblical and pastoral aspect of sending and apostolate has been assigned prefe-rentially to the ordained ministries and those of the religious orders. The present stu-dy seeks to establish the identity of the baptized, laic, ordained or religious, from the biblical sense of the category ‘apostle’ and its derivative ‘apostolate’, its lexical roots in the Old and New Testaments, some significant texts of sending and the implications for the baptismal praxis. The methodological procedure is based on the contextual literary study, from the lexical meaning and its literary contexts, hence the biblical-theological implications and the appropriations for the baptismal praxis.El aspecto bíblico y pastoral del envío y el apostolado ha sido asignado de manera pre-ferente a los ministerios ordenados y los de la vida religiosa. En el presente estudio se busca fundamentar la identidad del bautizado, laico, ordenado o religioso, a partir del sentido bíblico de la categoría ‘apóstol’ y su derivado ‘apostolado’, sus raíces lexicales en el Antiguo y en el Nuevo Testamento e implicaciones, algunos textos significativos del envío y las implicaciones para la praxis bautismal. El procedimiento metodológico se apoya en el estudio literario contextual, desde el significado lexical y sus contextos literarios, de ahí las implicaciones bíblico-teológi-cas y las apropiaciones para la praxis bautismal.
