The Way, the Saint Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer’s most known book was published in September of 1939 in Valencia. This article reproduces, with slight variations, a conference pronounced in the commemoration of the 75th Aniversary of its publication in a Universitary Residence of Valencia. The following lines are intended to pro-vide some considerations about the literary characteristics of The Way and its im-plication in the transmission of the spiritual message of the book. Although it is not incorrect to frame The Way into the aphoristic genre, however, the book is not the result of a previous election of a literary gender: it not due to the accurate initial proj-ect of writing a work and, less, a work of a concrete literary genre. The Way came from the needs that the author had in his apostolic work. And in that context, it is possible to see that literary style is subordinated to the transmission of a message. On the other hand, it is important to consider that The Way is not a theological treatise. Certainly it contains plenty of elements to insinuate some lines of that spirituality, but they are not enough. En septiembre de 1939 se publicó, en Valencia, Camino, el libro más conocido de San Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer. Este artículo reproduce, con ligeras variantes, una conferencia pronunciada en una Residencia Universitaria de Valencia2, en la con-memoración del 75 aniversario de su publicación. Las líneas que siguen pretenden aportar algunas consideraciones sobre las características literarias de Camino y su implicación en la transmisión del mensaje espiritual del libro. Aunque no es incorrec-to encuadrar a Camino dentro del género aforístico, sin embargo, el libro no es fruto de una elección previa de un género literario: no obedece a un proyecto inicial preciso de escribir una obra y, menos, una obra de un género literario concreto. Camino nació de las necesidades que al autor le planteaba su labor apostólica. Y en ese contexto, se percibe que el estilo literario se subordina a la transmisión de un mensaje. Por otra parte, no hay que perder de vista que Camino no es un tratado teológico. Ciertamente contiene abundantes elementos para esbozar algunos trazos de esa espiritualidad, pero son insuficientes. Con todo, el contenido de Camino rezuma el mensaje que san Josemaría transmitió desde el 2 de octubre de 1928.
