This article exposes the metaphor of mystical rapture /ascension as an expression of an epochal crisis that Jewish society suffered when returning from exile. This crisis is concurrent with a change of theological paradigm that not only results in a desacral-ization of the terrestrial temple, as M. Himmelfarb claims, but also creates a rupture or transformation in the way of understanding justice and the historical action of God. The metaphor in the Jewish and Christian texts analyzed demonstrates that it kept this relationship firmly attached to the central theme of divine justice for victims, which is repeatedly reformulated according to the experience of martyrdom and per-secution of apocalyptic and Christian groups. El artículo expone la metáfora del arrebato/ascenso como expresión de una crisis epo-cal que padece la sociedad judía al regreso del destierro. Dicha crisis es concomitante con un cambio de paradigma teológico, el cual no sólo realiza una desacralización del templo terrestre como afirma M. Himmelfarb sino, además, realiza una ruptura o transformación en la manera de comprender la justicia y la acción histórica de Dios. La metáfora en los textos judíos y cristianos analizados demuestra que mantuvo esta relación ligada al tema central de la justicia divina a las víctimas que es reformulada una y otra vez de acuerdo a la experiencia de martirio y persecución que viven grupos apocalípticos y cristianos.
