This article examines the theme of discipleship in the Aparecida document and the innovation that it brings to Latin American pastoral theology. We approach the the-me from the reality of faith, as a vital principle of Christian experience. The research dynamic seeks to show that the follower of Christ is above all a believer, and that this presupposition, obvious in former times, is no longer obvious today. For this reason, the self-realization of the Church in this historical moment finds a real rectification in the Aparecida Conference, inviting us to re-focus theologically our pastoral future, not through innumerable pastoral initiatives, but on the people that carry them out and their essential Christian formation. In a few words, the focus on the person of the disciple forces us to base each evangelizing process on something that precedes it.El presente artículo aborda el tema del discipulado en Aparecida y la novedad que esta categoría aporta a la teología pastoral latinoamericana. Nos aproximamos al tema desde la realidad de la fe, como principio vital del acontecimiento cristiano. La di-námica de la investigación busca develar que el seguidor de Cristo es, ante todo, un creyente y que este presupuesto, que en otro tiempo se daba por evidente, hoy no lo es. Por lo mismo, la auto realización de la Iglesia en el hoy de la historia encuentra en la Conferencia de Aparecida una verdadera rectificación, invitando a re focalizar el devenir teológico pastoral, no en las innumerables iniciativas pastorales, sino en la persona que las realiza y su necesaria formación cristiana. En pocas palabras, la cen-tralidad en la persona del discípulo obliga a partir todo proceso evangelizador desde un eslabón anterior.
