The main axis of this proposal is to analyze the stances of milítary strategist Alfred Thayer Mahan, of entrepreneur Andrew Carnegie and of the lawyer and politician Elihu Root regarding the United States' foreign policy towards the Caribbean in the dawn of XX century. The stance and opinion of these important men were the expression of the ruling Republican Party's conservative wing and of the nations's expansionist project implemented by the White House. Thus the relevance of studying the Caribbean and Central America through the speeches of these three men in light of the political processes taking place in the United States and in Caribbean land after the 1898 war.Analizar las posturas del estratega militar Alfred Thayer Mahan, del empresario Andrew Carnegie y del abogado y político Elihu Root en torno a la política exterior estadounidense hacia el Caribe en los albores del siglo XX constituye el eje central de la presente propuesta. La postura y la opinión de estos personajes fueron la expresión de los sectores que conformaban el ala conservadora del Partido Republicano en el poder, y del proyecto expansionista de la nación implementado por la Casa Blanca. Por ende, estudiar el Caribe y Centroamérica en los discursos de estos tres personajes cobra relevancia a la luz de los procesos políticos que tienen lugar tanto en Estados Unidos como en suelo caribeño, después de la guerra de 1898.
