dc.descriptionThis article analyzes the impact of the First World War on one of the ports of the Chilean saltpetre region. In the context of a capitalist and integrated world market, the European powers and the attempts to secure their supply routes and prevent their adversaries from reaching them, this confrontation had a negative impact on the economy of the region. This confrontation had a negative impact on the economy of the saltpeter region given the high need for nitrate supplies during the conflict and the questioned Chilean neutrality. Finally, the socioeconomic repercussions of the conflict in the southern sector of the Atacama Desert are analyzed, closing with some conclusions that aim to shed light on this problem.en-US
dc.descriptionEl artículo analiza el impacto de la Primera Guerra Mundial en uno de los puertos de la región salitrera de Chile. en el contexto de un mercado mundial capitalista e integrado en que las potencias europeas y los intentos de asegurar sus vías de aprovisionamiento e impedir que llegaran a sus adversarios. Esta confrontación tuvo un negativo impacto en la economía de la región salitrera dada la alta necesidad del abastecimiento de nitrato durante el conflicto y la cuestionada neutralidad chilena. Por último, se analiza las repercusiones socioeconómicas del conflicto en el sector meridional del desierto de Atacama, cerrando con algunas conclusiones que pretenden aportar a esclarecer este problema.es-ES
